Aunt Guthrie, Oklahoma 1890s She was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma. A family legend

The story was that the family owned "oil land" in Oklahoma, but lost it to white folks. That is not what happened. The land from which the family was driven was in Western Tennessee. My great-grandfather returned to Western Tennessee where he had enslaved after serving in the U.S.C.T. He married and somehow acquired land. He and his wife had 11 children. They were driven from this land and relocated in Oklahoma Territory in approximately 1893 where land was acquired and farmed. The farming venture was not successful and the family split moving to Kansas, Missouri and larger cities in Oklahoma.
