My father's mother, so I was told as a child, was full Cherokee. Grandma Smith would get very upset if you asked about this. She denied it to the day she died. All I have found is, she was born either 1882 or 83, some where in Charles County, Maryland. She married my grandfather, Joseph Smith, at the age of 13 so it was told. They had 6 children, I can only remember a few names, Grover, Ruby, Clara, and my father Howard Wellington Smith, who was born some where around 1917. |
