Though the Serengeti plains contain many ethnic groups, few have more traditions more colorful than the Maasai. Historically a nation of warriors and herdsmen, the Maasai historically placed great emphasis on courage and valor. Red is used for everything from jewelry to shields to symbolize bravery. But the Maasai are also adept craftsmen. Their intricately designed beadwork is a staple of African art galleries throughout the world.
