My dad was the one who inspired and encouraged his five year old (baby girl) to “know your history.”
Our country had just experienced the horrific loss of our “Drum Major for Justice,” Martin Luther King, Jr. I remember my dad as a very stoic and stately. However, that day he was anything but. I will never forget the look on his face.
After the “breaking news” broadcast of the assasination of Martin Luther King, Jr., our living room fell silent. My dad looked at all seven of his children and said, “know your history and never forget this man.”
His words still haunt me…and propel me…know your history.
