Growing up I learned about African-American history from my mother and grandmother. Together we would gather around the kitchen table and listen as the stories unfolded. I learned about the struggles my ancestors endured through slavery and coming out of the South migrating to the North in search of a better life. These stories inspired me to start tracing the history of my family. This has also given me a deeper understanding of our history as a people. I am continuing to tell the stories as they have been passed on to me, documenting my history as I trace the footsteps of my ancestors through blogging and writing for the future generations.
