Born 1954 in Louisiana and schooled in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the sixties I experienced a lot of history but very little Black History. Being a history buff, I was very curious about MY history and set out to learn what was not presented in school. I read books, watch PBS, documentaries (not all present ALL the real facts) my family members telling OUR history, internet searches, cultural events, any and all things African. I have found out that we, African Americans, have participated in all aspects of life. We have had rich cities, banks that have been erased from history, created several useful items, invented numerous inventions, have been great doctors, engineers, educators. I feel that as a race African American history should, need to be explored and all aspects of our history be presented. It did not begin with the slavery trade.
