Mirella Freni - Italian soprano
Born in Modena, Italy Feb. 27, 1935

Frequently paired with Luciano Pavarotti, Mirella Freni enjoyed 30 seasons with famous Italian opera house, Teatro La Scala. Although she first performed publicly in a radio singing contest as a child, she made her opera debut at age 19, in 1955 singing the role as Micaela in Carmen. Shortly thereafter she would name her first child Micaela. Her nickname, La Prudentissima or the careful one, has summed up her career. Still performing at age 66 she always avoided pushing her voice, electing to take roles well suited to her light soprano.
