La Bohème (The Bohemian) - Giacomo Puccini - 1896

When the seamstress Mimì knocks on the door of her neighbor, the impoverished poet Rodolfo, it's love at first sight, but his jealousy causes disharmony in their relationship, and Mimi asks his friend, the painter Marcello, for help. Marcello confronts Rodolfo, and learns that the relationship is doomed. Mimì is dying of tuberculosis, and Rodolfo fears that in his poverty he cannot care for her. Months later, after a long and painful breakup, Mimì reappears. She is very sick, in need of food, medicine, and care. Once brought into Rodolfo's appartment, however, she dies quickly and peacefully.
