In the 1990s, American Masters earned many major awards, including three Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award and Academy Award nominations for three films. American Masters series creator Susan Lacy traveled to China to film Paul Simon on tour, and the American Masters film Johnny Carson: King of Late Night reached 12 million viewers. Other masters featured in this decade included Marvin Gaye.
