The Northern Neck is in the eastern part of Virginia where the Potomac River spills into the Chesapeake Bay. George Washington was born in the Northern Neck. It's 75 to 100 miles from Wash., D.C. going south and east. It's also the home of Robert E. Lee's magnificient birthplace, Stratford Hall, which is open to the public. Well worth a visit.
