Mission: As an upper Midwest contemporary art museum, the Sioux City Art Center's mission is to bring the excitement of the visual arts to the region through education, exhibition, permanent collection, and the support of artists.
Founder: Alice Lawler and the Society of Fine Arts laid the groundwork in 1914 for what was to become the Sioux City Art Center.

Vision: While maintaining a commitment to our unique regional presence and identity, the Art Center is now in a position to begin thinking about itself within a broader network of museums, art centers and educational institutions on a national and international level.

Program
Programs: (Annual) Artist in Residence Program offers a learning/experiential opportunity for High School students to work with a contemporary artist. (Annual)Youth Art Month provides K-12 grade students the opportunity to produce artwork that is jurored by a regional artist. (Annual) D.A.R.E. Lock-In is a drug-free alternative activity for students from 35 middle schools. A poster contest results in an exhibition at the Art Center. Artworks is an interactive learning experience for area 5th grade students to tour the Art Center followed by a hands-on exhibition-related art project lead by a volunteer docent. Education Classes and Workshops throughout the year targeting toddlers through senior citizens. Our film series offers a variety of genre to audiences of all ages. (Annual) Artsplash is an outdoor visual and performance art festival. Our Children's Hands-On Gallery offers visitors an opportunity to explore art through 12 interactive stations.

Additional Info: Although our history dates back to the WPA, we are currently located in a new $9.4 million facility which opened in 1997 and was designed by S.O.M. of Chicago. All but $1 million was raised via private and corporate funding. The Art Center is open six days a week, is ADA accessible, and admission is free.
