We are also engaged in a statewide project with Latino communities called Artes Tradicionales en la Communidad that includes community residencies and work with youth. We offer a series of rentable instructional materials on the traditional arts and culture of Oregon's Mexican American, Chinese, Lao and maritime communities, and one that's an overview of traditional arts in the state. We plan to offer summer teacher institutes in the near future, and are beginning to expand the community documentation aspect of our work--teaching teachers and students how to do interviews and document the cultural and artistic resources of their own families and communities.

"My grandma has taught me that we should keep up with world today, but we shouldn’t forget our cultural traditions. She says to keep it in your heart and not to forget it or else you won't know very much about your culture to teach."
-- Kasandra Naomi Castellanoz, age 12, granddaughter of Eva Castellanoz, National Heritage Fellow
