Mission: To introduce children to the arts, and to make art, through the vehicle of dance, a vital part of their education.
Founder: A committee of dedicated citizens who wished to bring dance education to local young people.
Founded: 1985
Honors: Grants from The New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, The Monadnock Community Foundation, The Walker Foundation, Capezio/Ballet Makers Foundation, The Hunt Foundation, The Verney Foundation, The Bean Foundation, and many others; recognized by the New England Association for the Gifted and Talented

Program
Programs: Academic year-long in-school dance program for elementary- and middle school-age children in Monadnock Region schools culminating in a large-scale, end-of-year performance series; beginning in 2001-2002, a variety of shorter-term in-school residencies with professional choreographer/teachers throughout the state
Youth Served: 250
Gender Specific: No
Prerequisites: For our current in-school program, students must attend a participating school or be home-schooled within that district. Age of eligibility varies from school to school and is based on the school's desire to have the program for a particular grade level. In most schools, students who express an interest and commitment may participate. In a few larger schools where the number of students interested in the program is larger than the number of available class spaces, an audition is held to determine students' ability to pay attention and focus and upon their energy and desire to move. Students accepted in these auditions need no prior dance experience, and most of them have none.

"NHDI gave me the confidence to know that I can achieve my goals with hard work and dedication. It has improved my self-esteem, given me a chance to meet friends from other communities, and has shown me that music and dance are something that I enjoy and am good at." --Nick, NHDI student
