Mission: We provide a facility to house cultural and historical documents and artifacts portraying African Americans contributions to the growth of Chattanooga and the nation, to develop a universal appreciation and interest in the African American heritage and culture, and to provide techniques which promote the cultural arts (dance, music, visual arts and appreciation).
Founder: Roy Noel, community businessman and educator, and Jacola Goodwin, elementary school teacher and historian. Both are deceased.
Founded: 1983
Vision: We feel that the Caam will be a key force in community tourism. It will provide hope and a foundation on which to build distinction in interpretation, exhibition, and other cultural offerings. It will serve as a beacon for community involvement, and a vision of a Samuel L. Jackson youth theater or drama group.

Additional Info: You will find an extensive collection of photographs, newspaper clippings, artwork, a research library and African art. Multimedia presentation on African to American before slavery, ceremonial masks, sculptures, Bessie Smith "Empress of the Blues" exhibit, and a performance hall. We have an ongoing music and dance education program.
