Mission: To serve the public by providing access to art of enduring quality, by educating a diverse audience about art and by collecting and preserving a wide range of art for the enrichment of present and future generations.
Founder: The letters of incorporation for the Portland Art Museum were signed on December 12, 1892 by Henry Corbett, Dr. Holt Wilson, Henry Failing, William Ladd, Winslow Ayer, the Reverend Thomas Eliot and C.E.S. Wood--men who also founded Portland's banks and businesses.
Vision: The Portland Art Museum is a vital educational and cultural resource for the Northwest, and is emerging as one of the nation's premier regional art museums. The Museum will continue to expand its outreach through enhanced programming and build its collections through informed acquisitions.
