The letters of incorporation for the Portland Art Museum were signed on December 12, 1892 by Henry Corbett, Dr. Holt Wilson, Henry Failing, William Ladd, Winslow Ayer, the Reverend Thomas Eliot and C.E.S. Wood--men who also founded Portland's banks and businesses.
