Vision: To continually expand and improve our programming to better serve the readers and writers of Oregon, because a fully engaged, enlightened society is a more humane and democratic one.
 
Program
Programs: Portland Arts & Lectures has presented more than 170 writers, playwrights, poets, journalists, historians, artists and critics respected for their contributions to their craft and fields. Oregon Book Awards is an annual celebration of literary excellence in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, young reader's literature and drama. Oregon Literary Fellowships provide fiscal support to emerging writers, and small, independent publishers throughout the state of Oregon. Poetry in Motion is a project jointly coordinated by Literary Arts, Tri-Met, OBI Media and the Poetry Society of America that places poems by local and international writers on public transportation. Writers in the Schools is a comprehensive writing program employing working, professional writers in middle and high schools.

Prerequisites: The program is limited by geographic area only. Students are not selected to be in the program. Writers take over entire classes which represent a huge range in skill and economic level.
