Is hula a language? For more than 300 years, it's been a means of transmitting Hawaiian culture and stories not only through dancing, but chanting and music as well. In Hula, a woman presses up and from her knees, arms outstretched and palms to the sky, to tell a tale about her body. A man's feet step assuredly to express his warrior spirit and the preparation for battle. EGG profiles two "kumu hulas" or hula teachers, Maile Loo and Sonny Ching, along with hula "ambassador," Nona Beamer, who, with their students and work, keep the hula tradition alive into the next generation.
