Interview with Elizabeth Koeppen
EGG: The strobe light you use in the piece creates a fascinating effect; how does it actually work?

EK: Well it's very interesting how we have to set up this piece in every theatre, because we've played thousands of theatres and in different countries,; we have to use different battery packs, all sorts of things. But two strobes are placed at the front part of the stage, focused in on the dancer in the center, and there's a black mat that is shielding the light from the audience, so they won't hurt their eyes. The dancer always looks away or over the strobe light so their eyes are never affected. The cables are all plugged in and the battery power is working, and then finally at the end, the dancer is given the clicker, and through this remote control the dancer is able to fire the lights themselves.
