A nondescript plastic bucket in Wenda Gu's studio is filled to the brim with hair. He's replenished this bucket probably thousands of times, having collected hair from 500 barbershops in 18 countries, from 500,000 donors for his art. His largest project to date, "The United Nations - An Ongoing Global Art Project for the 21st Century," was started in 1993. It's a series of 25 site-specific installations that he expects to complete by 2005.
