More than a half-century later, Hystercine Rankin is not only still quilting, but keeping a tradition alive with the help of a circle of sewing comrades. "The happiness for me
is passing it down," says Rankin, who learned to quilt from her grandmother and now teaches others. "It's slow
work, but it's a joy to see a young person say, 'I'm gonna learn howto put a quilt up in the house.'"
