Lev Polyakin's violin must be paired up with the right bow to draw out its rich tones. Lev collaborates with David Orlin, a master bowmaker who painstakingly crafts and restores bows in his Ann Arbor, MI studio. David uses a special type of Chinese horsehair to match Lev's precise specifications; if there's not enough hair, it will break easily, while too much hair will muffle the sound.
