Pinsky believes that the vocal experience of poetry is transformative, and it is this belief that led him to found the Favorite Poem Project in April, 1997. Since then, he has recorded more than 1,000 people reading out loud the poem that speaks to them. In celebration of Pinsky's initiative and the unique power of the spoken word, we focus on love poems. We hear them recited, we speak with Pinsky, and we wonder: How is it that love poems can so uniquely capture feelings of love, the desire for it, the pleasure in having it, or the despair at having lost it?
