In the days following the attacks on the World Trade Center, journalist Anne Nelson helped a fire captain write eight eulogies in two weeks for the men he lost. Wanting to write about the experience but thinking a news piece wouldn't do it justice, she decided to write a play. She showed the script to Jim Simpson, artistic director of the Flea Theater -- a small non-profit theater located near the World Trade Center. Simpson knew right away it had to be staged. Sigourney Weaver and Bill Murray were cast and within days "The Guys" was playing blocks from Ground Zero and to downtown audiences. In the aftermath of 9/11 and when most theaters in New York City are trying to do business as usual, the tiny Flea Theater stands alone for responding directly to the tragedy. EGG is there as the story unfolds.
