In 1956, 19-year old Ed Ruscha left his hometown of Oklahoma City and set out for Los Angeles in his black 1950 Ford along that mythic stretch of highway, Route 66. Since then, images glimpsed from his car have defined much of Ruscha's career. His paintings, photographs and films pay homage to the highway, road-tripping, and the restlessness of the American spirit.
