For its episode "Science Fiction," Expos©: America's Investigative Reports (then known as AIR) asked Rudy Baum, editor of Environmental Science & Technology (ES&T) for an interview to comment on the circumstances of reporter Paul Thacker's leaving his employment there. A spokesperson for Baum referred AIR to a spokesperson for The American Chemical Society, which publishes ES&T. The American Chemical Society responded to AIR's request with this statement:

From what [producer] Dan Klein outlined to us, it appears that the information is not complete and does not reflect the complexity of the situation regarding Paul Thacker's employment at and departure from the staff of Environmental Science & Technology.

Decisions about the editorial content are based on the mission and the resources of the magazine. ES&T is committed to comprehensive coverage of the science of the environment, including policy issues driven by that science.

The American Chemical Society stands behind the articles it publishes and the writers of those articles.  All journalists employed by the Society have a clear set of policy and ethical guidelines they are expected to adhere to.

As with most employers, it is not the policy of the American Chemical Society to comment on conditions of individual's employment or departure.
