Gr gr grandfather Civ War Vet – Infantry
Trying to find about my gr gr grandfather, Elizia Morris (on death cert) name spelled: Elijah MORRIS, born approx 1824 unknown county/city, VA. His death cert indicated he was in civil war, U.S.C.T. He was probably a slave until he mustered into Civil war? Infantry. E. Morris worked in coal mines, Albia, IA. Died in Iowa, 1891 & is buried in an unplatted grave, Oakview cemetery, IA. A widower, he raised 5 children, wife Mary M. (Winn or Guinn) died at age 44, 1873, Albia, IA. Two children were born in Mo. Others in IA. His wife was said to be part Native American?. Several Morris’s listed on the USCT monument in D.C. but uncertain as to which one he is. Note: I also found a document indicating that an Elijah Morris served in Co. B, 60 USCT(Inf) & B 1 Iowa Col’d inf – & had an alias Morris, George. (Is Most likely my gr gr grandfather). Note 2: Since I have no idea where he was born in VA, I can only go back to his d.o.b., 1824* wife’s dob: 1829 one census record says she was born in VA, another says in Mo??
