finding your roots

Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War and Spanish American War

Diana Samek April 25, 2012

Two of my 5x Gr.Grandfathers, John Hill, Pvt. (Capt. Walker & Bush’s Co., Col. Butler’s PA Reg) and John Barton Wathen, Pvt.(4th Co. Upper Bat., Montgomery, Militia MD), were in the Revolutionary War. As was my 6x Gr. Grandfather Isaac Leet Sr., Pvt. (3rd Battalion Militia, Washington Co. PA) and my 5x Gr. Grand Uncle Maj. Daniel Leet (who was a personal friend of George Washington’s and who was personally asked by the General to serve under him) and his brother, my 5x Gr. Grand Uncle, Capt. William Leet, 3rd Battalion Militia, Washington, Co. PA . & Bush’s Co., Col. Butler’s PA Reg).
In the War of 1812, three of my Gr. Grandfathers served and two of my Gr.Grand Uncles served as well. Gabriel Wathen and Michael Coons were my 4x Gr. Grandfathers, Thomas Wathen was my 3x Gr. Grandfather and Alexander and Gillis Maddux were my 4x Gr. Grand Uncles.
I had three Gr. Grandfathers and one Gr. Grand Uncle who served in the Civil War. Capt. John Bierer,
Pvt. Loton Scott, and Pvt. RL Baker Hill, were my 2x Gr. Grandfathers. Col. Everard Bierer was my 2x Gr. Grand Uncle.
Two of my Gr. Grand Uncles served in the Spanish American War, Maj. Everhart Bierer and his brother, Capt. Daniel Merchant Bierer. I am very proud of my family genealogy. Many of my ancestors arrived here as colonists and determined that it was better to build a new Nation than to live under a distant ruler; they helped settle Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia when the colonies were new.
