Bridging the Gap
Hello my name is Thomas Anthony Canada, and I was one of the members in Geoffrey Canada video. I am an active duty Air Force member and have been for over 13 years now. When i met Geoffrey Canada at the family reunion back in 2010 we discussed the desire to find our roots. I have a slight amount of depth when it comes to my father and his father but still no relation to Geoffrey seemed odd. When i watched the show my mind was intrigued to find out that i held the same first and last name as Geoffrey’s great great Grandfather, a slave named Thomas. I begin to want more information, searching the web trying to figure out how this name has traveled centuries and has landed on a military veteran as myself. I wanted to know if Geoffrey was actually a part of my famly as we suspect. My daughter asked me the question “So daddy the man we met at the reunion is not related to us” I simply replied, baby i am not sure. One other thing that made me wonder if we were related was that my late grandfathers name was Thomas Jefferson Canada also know as Jeff Canada. I started to think to myself how could all this be? So today i still wonder. Our family has little knowledge as to where we are from and to be former resident of West Virginia I wonder if its possible that myself and Geoffrey might still be related. A little background on me. I graduated high school in 1998 from Oak Hill WV, went on to join the Air Force, have self published my first book, highly decorated veteran who has served in Operation Iraqi Freedom as well as Operation Enduring Freedom. My wife of eight years is also a military veteran who now works as a DOD contractor for the United States Air Force. I think we truly have a story to tell and would like to do as Geoffrey has done and find my roots. I know I am not famous but I think that this story will hit home for a lot of military families around the world. I also do beleive that the story of Geoffrey is already there and its something we can build on. Finding your roots sometimes means discovering that branches may have grown from fallen seeds. I do beleive that are seeds come fromt he same tree.
