I was just called a mixed salad
Today I asked someone how to pronounce their name. I wanted to show my respect and to make sure that when I spoke with them it would be said correctly. This lovely lady told me she was from Germany and how you should pronounce her name Eva-Maria. I said, I am also part German, English, Irish, Sweedish, Dutch and the Italian came from the Alter. Eva-Maria, replied that I was really a mixed salad.
The countries that make up me, is what I have been told, and some I know. My mother is from England (born and raised) and her grandparents came from Ireland. My father was born and raised in New York with a Dutch last name Van Deusen, which I only know goes back a long way from when they arrived on these shores. My grandmothers maiden name was Diehl and her grandfather was from Germany.
So over the years the salad has been mixed and tossed, and one of these days I will find the rest of this connection in Holland, England, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Sweeden etc. Then I will have a voyage of a story to tell.
