impossible etymology: Rutan
One of my ancestors is from a Huguenaut family called Rutan. Despite the fact that in
French , the name is spelled Routin, an earlier descendant of one Rutan family (supposing htere are others, that is ) decalred the source of the name to be rue temps, which is completely ludicrous, for anyone who knows French. Yet hte more probable source is a tribal name in amcient Gaul, the Ruteni, which survived at least into early Frankish times, as Routhenois; they at the time supported the Gothic/ Burgundian court over that ofthe Franks.
Mind now, that Scott is an old tribal / geolographical name; aE milian is from Etrscan, and that the family (or so I’m tild ) of Confucius is still traced It is likely, any way, htat the Routins got their name more from the region..
Also, mind that names are one thing I
