My story starts around 1999. My college age daughter at the time needed a computer for school work. We bought a PC and I began to play with it. I started by searching my last name. I quickly learned that links to genealogy would come up so I began looking for past Schroyers. I found several cousins that provided me with information. I ran into a dead end about 5 generations back. In 2000 I came upon the National Geographic Genome project and submitted my YDNA for analysis. I found that I closely matched with a family named O’Shea and was allowed to become part of their program. Just recently had a 37 out of 37 match with a Goff and several 24 out of 25 with other Goffs. I have a mystery I may never know. I suspect my YDNA came to America as an indentured servant and may have taken the Schroyer name from his employer. I feel it may be possible that he married a slave named Rachel. The reasoning for this is Rachel supposedly had no last name. The first Schroyer and Rachel’s son and the following sons in my line married Irish women. If I was rich I could probably pay someone to research this and find the whole story.
