finding your roots

The Builder

Jann Ballard August 2, 2012

My story is a bit long, but I will try to keep it short and to the piont. My journey begin in the late 90′s. We always heard about the big house in Pulaski, Tn. that my G-Grandfather bulit but none of the great grand childern had ever seen this place until 2008 when five of us decided to travel from our homes and meet in Pulaski,Tn. Not knowing how we would be accepted because it is known as the home of the KKK’s. But to our amazemnet everyone there was very cordial and very helpful. We were looking any information we could find on a man with two last names ( JONES SMITH ). Yes this was my great-grandfather. We don’t know where he was born but we know he was born in 1850 and died in 1905 at a young age while working at his profession, he was a prominent stone mason. In our findings we found out that he had built several buildings there in the city and they are still standing in their original state and are still in use. The librarian in the genealogy library was so helpful by helping us find his grave site and pionting us in the direction of the house and was that a exciting moment to see this large house that was built by this small frame of a man in the year of 1877. Now my journey is still on hold because this is a passion of mine to find out if he had any other brothers or sisters. I may have other relative out there that may be looking also. I do hope you start the program back up because it helps so much.
