Where is a Winzey from?
My dad was not lucky enough to live long with his dad like I have enjoyed my own dad. There were many stories about my grandfather.
My grandfather has lived in Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois and I am not sure where else. Isaiah, my grandfather was in his late 60′s when my dad was born. So there is a big age gap with them. My grandfather owned a candy and tobacco store. He was known as peanut Ike, owned a horse & buggy at one time and was getting beat up by Al Capone’s men. ( rumor had it) His dad died when he was just a young boy. My dad, Paul Winzey was the last of his children. My grandfather Isaiah Winzey was born in 1862. He had several wives and children. From the records I found on Ancestry.com I was able to find him living with his mother named Melinda in the 1870′s as a young boy. I have records showing that Melinda was born in 1836 and lived as a servant in Chester County Pennsylvania. I also noticed a couple of other Winzey’s a James and a Sarah living in the same county. Sarah has the same birthday as my great grandmother. There are no records of a husband or a birth certificate of my grandfather. I would love to find out where his family (my family) came from since there are so many stories. Stories added to the mystery were that my grandfather was a German Dutch Quaker and that he was Indian. Who knows, but I am at a road block. I am going to order a DNA test for my dad to take to find out his make up and if there are any other relatives that I have not found. My father is 82 and I would love to do this prior to him getting older. It would be great to find out more for him since there are so many questions.
I was lucky to find my dad’s half brothers daughter. She is a blessing and still around to confirm some stories. But she doesn’t know much since her father changed his name and she didn’t find out his actual name till after his death. My cousin is in her 70′s and is going strong. She has introduced me to a lot of other family members through emails. One day I hope to meet them all in person. We all still have a lot of questions about our Grandfather and his background. I am hoping that maybe this small story might help us out. If anyone knows what I should do next to get information please let me know.
