Cousin Meryl Streep

Melissa Howard March 19, 2012

When Meryl Streep appeared in Sophie’s Choice back in the 1980′s I started hearing from friends and strangers that I looked like her. Even when she went blond strangers still approached me to say, “You look like a dark haired Meryl Streep.” It has happened numerous times. I think she’s a wonderful actress and classic beauty, so I couldn’t help being flattered, but didn’t think anymore about it. Imagine my surprise when Meryl Streep’s genealogy was traced on Harry Louis Gates PBS special and I saw my own ancestors being featured! It turns out that Meryl and I are 8th cousins once removed. We both descend from Capt. William Crispin 1627-1681.
