Famous Relatives and missing ancestors
On my Dad’s Mothers side, we are eligible to join the DAR and The Mayflower Society due to ancestors who founded Hartford, CT, and relatives that signed the Declaration of Independence (Robert Livingston and Fuller as well.) I haven’t yet. Also on my Dad’s Mother’s side includes being the 7th cousin-once removed to Diana Spencer…or 8th to Wills and Harry. My Dad’s father’s side was Irish by way of England and they came here in the mid-1800′s. My Mom’s family is mysterious. Although I have done my DNA (My Mom’s Mothers side), which can be traced through the Middle East, Europe and Africa…I cannot find most of my Mother’s fathers family. They are French-Canadian and for all practical purposes were illegal immigrants to the states even though my Gramps fought for the U.S. in WWI and was gassed by the U.S. in the Argonne Forest in France. (That came straight out of a U.S. Army field records book that I found at a tag sale!) I would love to find his history as his middle name was “Napoleon.” Now that could just be a good French-man doing his duty to his mother country or it could be that there is a connection. And my Great-grandfather in Canada married a Canadian Indian …and I have not found much on her as well. I need some help with this one. I would love to get info on my Grandfather’s history through DNA as well…my sons add even more to the mix as their father’s family is also a mystery…Polish or German or???? My oldest son is a comedienne in NYC and uses some of this mess in his stand-up…we are mutts…pure and simple. I tried to load a picture but it does not open for some reason.
