finding your roots

Many, many years I go I watched the first run of “Roots”, then I read Mr. Haley’s book. I was hooked, I had to know who I was and where I came from. Over the more then 30 yrs I’ve been searching, I’ve been able to ‘travel’ back to the 17th century (early America and England). I’ve found 1000′s of ancestors on my Paternal side as well as my Mother’s father’s side in Canada. But to this day I have never been able to find my Maternal Grandma before she married my Grandfather. She just doesn’t want to be found. But I haven’t given up, I know her history is out there somewhere.

Like Marjory, I have been searching for my grandmother on my paternal side. I cannot find her before the marriage application to marry my grandfather. I’ve found all of her half siblings on her mother’s side and on her father’s, but I can’t find her. Our female ancestors are very difficult to find unless connected to a male head of household. She was so influential in her family as a wife, sister, mother, and grandmother, its sad she was so invisible as a child.
