Still Searching for Missing Branches
I am African American. A FamilyTreeDNA test identified my white (English) father’s lineage. I matched white relatives in California, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. Since that time, I’ve attended to reunions. I never met my father who is probably black, but the DNA test identified what we believe is my Greatgrandfather. He left georgia as a young adult and his family did not hear from him again until, his Grandson, a Judge in Bakersfield, CA searching for his Paternal rootls learned through his Grandmother’s marriage certificate that his Grandfather had changed his name from Ledbetter to Wyatt. The Judge then located potential relatives and asked them to participate in a DNA test which proved they were related. My mother, visited Chattanooga, TN as a teen and became pregnant. I was born the following year. My Greatgrandfather died the year before my birth and my mother died when I was 3 years 11 months. I don’t know my Father or Grandfather (both probably African American or black). This year marks the third year attending the Ledbetter Reunion. Moreover, they traced my Greatgrandfather lineage to Durham, England (1500′s)and his mother’s lineage to Germany near Stuttgart (1400′s). I also learned that the first Grand Wizard of the KKK and Civil War General, Nathan Bedford Forrest’s Grandmother is also a Ledbetter in the family tree.
