Dear Professor Gates –
Just wanted to send a quick note to say a hardy “Thanks”!
I originally stumbled upon African American Lives…then was excited to watch the series Finding Your Roots and now I have
just watched Looking for Lincoln. Thank you for all of these amazing series! (all DVR’d so we don’t miss one!)
Just to share who I am…in my family I tend to be the genealogy keeper, so , here goes…we are mostly Irish..mixed with a bit of German, and a dusting of English…
But, in my family of origin…with 5 kids, we have added through marriage…
- a second gen Italian (who’s 4 grandparents came through Ellis Island)
- a second gen Cuban (who’s parents had to leave Cuba, as small children, during the revolution)
- a first gen Persian from Iran (who came to the US as a bahai refuge)
- an African American (who’s family has been in North Carolina for many generations and have an American Indian in their family, as well)
We are one of the many family “melting pots” which make up our great country! Gotta love America!
So, all of your programs have been so intriguing to me and my family…and I really want to say…Bravo! Keep it up! We are learning so much about who we are and
where we, as Americans, have come from.
Thank you so much for all your hard work!
Tere Layton Mascali
PS – One of my favorite parts of your African American Lives was seeing your father…he seemed like an amazing and loving man…you are blessed!
