Memories of Lakeview
Looking at ancestry.com I saw my grandmother listed on other family trees and in the census as black and mulatto. I e-mailed one of the tree owners to see if it was the same person She said it was. We talked on the phone and she told me that one of the cousins was a famous ballplayer in the Negro League. I looked him up on ancetry.com and he was my grandmother’s incle. I e-mailed his daughter and we have exchanged some pictures of our fathers. My father left my mother when I was two and I only met him once when I was 35. He never mentioned that he was mixed race. I knew he was dark. He “passed” for white. What amazes me is the history of the families who settled in Lakeview in the early 1800s as well as the biology of the family. I guess they are Afircan, French, and Indian. I am not aware of any testing that has been done on these families. There was a book written about them called Memories of Lakeview and they have a reunion every Memorial Day. All of my information has been passed on by the generous relatives I have contacted. I am still in a state of shock over my discoveries.
