My Granduncle Alonzo Vanderhorst was born between 1877 and 1884. He was born and reared in Charleston S.C. Alonzo migrated to Boston Massachusetts around 1908 – 1910. The 1920 and 1930 census records showed him living in Brockton Massachusetts. He would have been to old for military service during World War II, but I did find his registration form. On his registration form his place of employment was listed as Hingham Mass shipyard. I again found him in Brockton city directories dated 1942 – 1943. My paper trail for him has become non existant since then. I believe he had a child that died as an infant while he resided in Charleston. Following the death of many close relatives, he migrated to Boston. He seemed to have been a loner. I have been trying to find him in my research for 6 years. I feel a spiritual connection to him, that will not allow me to stop looking. I know it was quite a dangerous time for our African American ancestors during this period of time. I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide.
