finding your roots

New Amsterdam or Bust

Frances Zahri April 28, 2012

My paternal line ancestor Philippe de Triuex along with his wife Susanna du Chesne traveled to America looking for religious freedom. Philippe arrived in New Amsterdam (New York City) in mid-May 1624. They sailed aboard the Ship named the New Netherland, or Nieuw-Nederland in Dutch. Philippe was a Walloon from the border of what is now Belgium & France. This family name later became Truex/Truax. My understanding is that this family were among the first 30 families to settle New Amsterdam (NYC) as well as the NY Hudson Valley.
