Finding the Plantation Connection
I am descended from the earliest English and Scottish settlers in America. I have been contacted by a possible relative named Marion McClary asking me about my McCleary relatives as being slave owners of a McClary Plantation in Kingstree, SC. I have ancestry proof that my relatives were slave owners, but I don’t know if my relatives connect to Marion’s family. I know I had some McCleary relatives in PA, but I need more help to make the connection to the Plantation.
I would love to have more help in getting information to Marion McClary who is interested in the genealogy of her family for a reunion in Aug. I have also had an interest in this since discovering the census listing slave ownership.
I have let Marion know what I know. The family was Scottish and had moved to N. Ireland before coming to America. They were given land grants after the Revolutionary War and moved to TN. The move to TN may have been connected with The Big Springs Church or
Cumberland Presbyterian Church out of PA.
I would love to have the DNA testing done to see how connected we are to the African American McClary family.
I have pictures from the early 1900s of the McClary/McCleary family in TN
