finding who we are
I come many generations of European people who fought their way to come to our country and who prospered. One part of my family (the O’Neils) came here when the father passed and his wife loaded 8 children up ,herself and 2 cousins and came to LA. only to find out they had been swindled. They found additional money to travel onward; some say they did not sell their farm in Ireland but just leased it out. In the end they ended up here. Many yeas later my great grand mother and her father co-owned a farm which later became hers when she married a saloon owner. that saloon owner and his co-owner brother worked side by side till the brother’s death. When Johanna’s husband inherited his brother’s share he sold it and became a farmer. Johanna’s father got a loan to start his store from David Davies who was Lincoln’s campaign manager, a judge and represented IL. Owen(O’Hara) and Johanna raised many children; one of which was my grandmother.. they were a firm believer in education and a woman being in business and owning property. the farm was really hers.
