THINGS HEAT UP: In the third month on the frontier, modern conveniences could not have felt farther away.
Forest fires gave the families a real scare, but nothing could stop them from their daily chores. Store visits, laundry days, cooking, cleaning, sewing, and gardening are among the many responsibilities that take up most of their time. The children also continued with their share of the work. For the kids, going back to school is a welcomed vacation from a long summer of hard work.
