GREAT PERFORMANCES at the Met, Season Eight

  • Albert Sanchez Moreno

I am especially looking forward to those Shakespeare plays. I hope they are telecast in Atlanta, or at least made available for viewing online, and later on DVD.

  • Kathleen Crisp

I am so excited to see “Moby-Dick” on your schedule! I saw the opera live last year and it is amazing. I hope a CD/DVD will be available as well.

  • Noriko Sengoku

I’ve enjoying Met Opera at Great Performance. Does the schedule change to on Sunday? Use to be on Thursday.
or do you repeat them other day beside Sunday?

  • james n peebles

there is error in schedule—rigoletto march 20 is not a sunday–should be 19???

  • david ernst

    Hi James,

GP @ the Met: Rigoletto airs in primetime at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 17 and Sunday, May 20 at noon. As always, you should check your local listings to see when your local station is airing the program. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your question and we hope you tune in!

  • james n peebles

thanks for your response! apologies for the error i made, i meant to write that on the schedule may 20 is a monday, not a sunday, according to my calendar????—thanks—jnp

  • Mer

Yes, that Sunday will be the 19th. Probably in the local schedule, there won’t be the same type error. :-)

  • Liss

I keep checking back for whether “The Hollow Crown” has been scheduled or not. I really don’t want to miss it.

  • david ernst

    Hi Liss,

No you haven’t missed anything yet. The Hollow Crown is still scheduled for Fall 2013, but no specific air dates or times have been determined as of yet (they’re quite long! ;). We promise we’ll announce in as many ways as possible (web, Facebook and Twitter) as soon as we know.

Thanks for your question. We’re excited for the series as well!

  • denny

Thanks for airing all the HD Met performances. I love these operas and am not able to attend screenings, so being able to see them on THIRTEEN is truly a blessing. A thousand thanks!

  • Allen

Thank you for this series! I never miss it!

  • Juliet

    Greetings,

Thank you for posting the complete schedule for the Met HD Broadcasts…really looking forward to seeing some of these again but I just wanted to know why Rigoletto is being broadcast before Aida?? The rest of the performances seem to be in the same order as their original transmission from the Met.

  • david ernst

    Hi Juliet,

The reason why Rigoletto is airing before Aida is because we all agreed that the new production is really exciting and wanted it to receive a national primetime slot which was slightly earlier in the season. Hence the slight order switch of the two operas.

Hope this answers your question. Thanks for asking!

    Best,
    GP Team

  • Judi McInnes

    Mr. Ernst:
I am a volunteer Ambassador for The Met Opera in HD presented by FathomEvents.com in local theaters and have over 100 people on my data list for updates on the live performances of the Met from Lincoln Center and the encores about 2-1/2 weeks later. I am delighted that you have provided a great list of the upcoming Met Opera performances (and other forms of the arts) on PBS and will be happy to send it to every one in my email list. I know they will be excited to receive them too. Thanks very much!

  • Juliet

Ok that makes sense lol thanks for the clarifying.

  • Juliet

    the *clarification.

  • david ernst

    Hi Liss,

We’re happy to say that the Fall dates for all GP shows have been announced including “The Hollow Crown”! We hope you stay tuned!

  • Erin

Really excited for “The Hollow Crown”.. I’ve been dying to watch it! I hope it’ll be released on DVD as well.

  • Mark Sebastian Jordan

How I miss the days when Great Performances actually showed great performances of symphonic music. Watching broadcasts of Bernstein leading Mahler and Giulini leading Brahms and Mehta leading Rimsky-Korsakov changed my life. The lack of this kind of music in this schedule is sad, sad.

  • Rob C

Great Performances is a great series! Keep up the wonderful work!
I actually came to this page to see if Jesus Christ Superstar would be an upcoming feature. I tuned in for Phantom of the Opera tonight (6/16) on my local channel (thirteen) and the information that came up through my cable provider (cablevision) for the 7-10p.m. hours reads: “Great Performances: Jesus Christ Superstar…Director Gale Edward’s adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s musical…” Not that I haven’t enjoyed watching the Phantom of the Opera, but I’m a huge fan of Jesus Christ Superstar and I am hoping that Great Performances does plan to include this fantastic musical in the upcoming schedule.

Thank you for the wonderful performances you bring to us all!
