Natasha Richardson
(1963 – 2009)
GREAT PERFORMANCES mourns the passing of Natasha Richardson, whose theatrical brilliance captivated public television audiences in 1993 with GP’s telecast of Tennessee Williams’ “Suddenly, Last Summer.” A great talent and enduring friend of the theater, she also joined her husband Liam Neeson to co-host the STAGE ON SCREEN telecast of “The Man Who Came to Dinner” from the Roundabout Theatre Company in 2000.

What a tragedy and great loss.
My thoughts are with her husband and two boys.
As a mother I weep with Vanessa Redgrave.

Natasha!
Natasha Richardson, the gorgeous 45 year-old talented daughter of Vanessa Redgrave, wife of Liam Neeson, and mother of two beloved sons, was a great award winning British actress. I first saw her in Paul Schrader’s “Patty Hearst,” a 1988 biopic about the kidnapped heiress. From that moment on, I have been enchanted by Natasha’s performances, wit, and beauty.
As a lover of the Arts, I will feel the lack of Natasha’s natural gift for effortless acting and her delightful personality. She had the ability to use a single static moment of time on film, stage, or television to create a perceptive heartbeat of deep human emotion.
Although Natasha leaves a great body of work behind, I am yet reminded she was young, vivacious, and had much more to look forward to and achieve in the future.
I will miss her greatly. However, my deepest natural sense of compassion enfolds completely, her family, friends, and all who loved her.
I will never forget lovely Natasha.
Be well,
Sean
KING LEAR
A plague upon you, murderers, traitors all!
I might have saved her; now she’s gone for ever!
Cordelia, Cordelia! stay a little. Ha!
What is’t thou say’st? Her voice was ever soft,
Gentle, and low, an excellent thing in woman.

Upon hearing the news, my heart went out to Liam and their sons. It’s a cruel fate that they should know their mother for only a brief time, and to have her taken away so precipitously. My heart goes out to her mother as well, to lose a daughter so young and so full of vibrant talent, must be a burden to her soul. My very best to her family, friends, and fans.
Warm beautiful Natasha R. The fact that you were Vanessa’s daughter was only rich icing on your already nourishing and generous cake of Art.
I am sure that I am not alone in wishing for a PBS revival of SUDDENLY.
It would be lovely to have you in our company once again.
Mr. D

Oh my God! What so much she had left to be done and God doesn’t play fair.
