Clip | Barrymore - Barrymore Excerpt: John Barrymore Introduces Himself

In this opening scene excerpt from Barrymore, acting legend John Barrymore (Christopher Plummer) introduces himself to the audience. He explains the anticipated Broadway revival of his Richard III production and later mixes a drink to toast his late friend and fellow alcoholic, Henry.

“You know, Richard was my first real success,” says Barrymore of his celebrated performance in 1920. “It was a long time ago, but it was the first time they took me seriously. So I’ve got to try to get the old bastard up on his feet again. I need to be taken seriously once more before the man in the bright nightgown comes for me.”
