"Cats," the most famous stage musical of all time, seen by more than 50 million people in more than 27 countries and translated into 14 languages, premieres nationally on PBS on Monday, November 2, 1998, at 8pm (Eastern Time). (Check local listings.) Produced under the supervision of Andrew Lloyd Webber, the production has been restaged for video and recorded with a specially augmented 76-piece orchestra.

This Web companion to GREAT PERFORMANCES: CATS includes an exclusive interview with Andrew Lloyd Webber in Meet the Artists. In our Behind the Scenes section, writer Michael Coveney takes an in-depth look at the oeuvre of this master of the musical stage, and A Look at the Work tells the story of the genesis of the now-classic musical.
