About the Writer:
MICHAEL COVENEY is the theater critic of the Daily Mail and is currently writing a book about the life and work of Andrew Lloyd Webber. He was born in London and educated at Oxford University. His previous posts in journalism include the editorship of Plays and Players, the monthly theater magazine, and he has also been theater critic on the Financial Times and The Observer. His books include critical biographies of the actress Dame Maggie Smith and the British film director Mike Leigh.
