Kurosawa

Back

Kurosawa's suicide attempt.

He spoke quite frankly about it afterwards. Every man has a moment of temptation ... a weak moment. He wasn't thinking about dying. The Japanese film industry was faltering ... or he couldn't make films he wanted. It's easy to try to find something to blame, but it wasn't that. It was too many things ... like TORA! TORA! TORA! and many other things.

"When there's so many things, sometimes you get really weary. So when that happens, for an instant, suddenly you feel that way" -- that's what he said. I don't think he wanted to die. He was tired in so many ways, he couldn't think straight. Molehills look[ed] like mountains. And when there were too many mountains, he had this moment when he thought it wouldn't matter if he was here or not.
